This little gem a couple hours from home was a beautiful surprise for me! A scenic drive up the mountain just west of Fernie lies this very quiet resort, made up of four buildings. The first is the main lodge called Tamarack Lodge. It consists of the front desk, spa and dining room. The second is the Bear Bistro with a patio, gift shop and canoe rentals. Red Eagle Lodge and Cedar Lodge are accommodations only, 8 rooms with one large hot tub on an outside deck with incredible views - first come first serve, or meet new people!
There is a quiet wedding spot perfect for an outdoor wedding. Situated directly on the lake in a private nook. Very romantic.
The drive and hiking trails are simply stunning.
With food grown locally, their menu is enough for even the most distinguished palate. Costs are not exuberant and service is friendly. Below is a view of the dining room. Local elk is on the menu (yes I tried it!) and locally grown produce makes your meal as fresh as it can be.
While spring and fall are a little quieter, staff at Island Lake Lodge indicate their busiest season is that of winter.
